Ancestral Aztec Wisdom •  Sensory Awakening •  Oral & Skin Vitality • Warming & Tingling

Region: Sierra Gorda, México

Strength: Strong

Element: Fire & Earth

Ingredients: Chilcuague Root (Heliopsis longipes), Organic Cane Alcohol

Description

Chilcuague (Heliopsis longipes) is a rare endemic root native to the mountainous regions of central México, traditionally valued for both herbal and culinary applications. Known for its intense tingling, warming, and numbing sensation, this remarkable root awakens the senses almost instantly through naturally occurring alkylamides, particularly affinin.

Our Chilcuague Extract carries a vibrant and activating character often associated with oral care, cleansing practices, warming circulation, respiratory support, and sensory stimulation within traditional folk herbalism. Its flavor profile is earthy, peppery, citrus-like, and electric on the tongue, creating a uniquely powerful mouth-feel even in small amounts.

Traditionally appreciated for anti-microbial and anti-fungal applications, Chilcuague has also gained contemporary interest surrounding the naturally occurring compounds found within the root. Strong, vibrant, and deeply distinctive, it remains one of the most unique botanical roots within the traditional plant knowledge of México.

Origin & Ingredients

Our Chilcuague is shared through a collective from the Sierra de Xichú within the Sierra Gorda regions of México, where cultivation and stewardship of this ancestral root continue in relationship with the land and local community knowledge.

Chilcuague (Heliopsis longipes) is native to the Sierra Gorda and Sierra de Álvarez regions spanning Guanajuato, Querétaro, and San Luis Potosí. The name is believed to derive from the Náhuatl word chilmecatl, often interpreted as “spicy cord” or “pungent root thread,” referencing both the fibrous appearance of the root and its penetrating pungency.

For generations, the root has been incorporated into traditional herbal preparations, culinary sauces, and regional folk practices connected to cleansing, warming, and oral applications.

Suggested Use & Impacts

Internal (Oral) Use: Spray 1–3 times into the mouth as needed. Begin with one spray to familiarize yourself with the potency and sensation of the root.

External (skin) Use: Spray directly onto the desired area as needed, avoiding contact with eyes and sensitive areas.

Chilcuague is traditionally appreciated for oral care, warming stimulation, respiratory support, and topical botanical applications. The naturally occurring alkylamides within the root create a strong tingling and numbing sensation that is considered part of the normal experience.

Warning: Avoid spraying directly into the throat until accustomed to its effects.
